Luxe Decor: Breakfast Nook Tables

During our recent kitchen renovation, we decided to add a banquette in our breakfast nook area.  The space is pretty large, and the built-in bench now provides much more seating than just a simple table and four chairs!

 

 

But speaking of tables, I've been on the hunt for the perfect table.  And I just haven't decided on the exact direction I want to go!

 

I've hung the coral chandelier I had in my previous dining space, and will add bamboo matchstick shades on the windows.  I'm thinking a classic black and white cabana stripe fabric for the cushions and pillows, and a pair of ghost chairs for when we need the extra seating.

 

But back to the tables! I'm on the hunt, and while I'm keeping an eye out for a great vintage find, there are some reproductions that I'm contemplating too...

 

Do I go for a simple, modern chrome look?



 

Or glammy with this gilt option?

 

Or a classic tulip table?

Luxe Lifestyle: Friday Vignettes: Another Kitchen Sneak Peek

We're really starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel...in the kitchen anyways.  We finally received our appliances last week, it's been glorious to finally cook again after almost a month of takeout and microwaved meals!  We're still missing some hardware, but all in all our kitchen is fully functional.  And I'm absolutely loving the uppers I added with the glass fronts and the X detail.  A full post on all the before and after shots coming soon!

 



Luxe Decor: Lucite Chandeliers

The house is far from any kind of a reveal, but I did get my "new" vintage lucite chandelier hung this weekend! A large, oval shape with alternating lucite and brass prisms gives my dining room the touch of Hollywood regency it was missing!  Now if we could just get the dining chairs, walls papered and moulding painted we'll be making some real progress!

Luxe Decor: Kitchen Sneak Peek & Happy Thanksgiving!

We're still appliance-less over here, so needless to say we will not be hosting Thanksgiving Day dinner. But our kitchen makeover is moving right along, new countertops, backsplash, sink and faucet are in!

 

 

More on these updates to come next week!

(Because hopefully then it's all done and we don't have to eat microwave dinners every night)

Luxe Decor: New Home Updates

We're finally in! As if moving isn't exhausting enough, when your first order of business involves refinishing floors and giving the entire house a fresh coat of paint, the fumes make it impossible to live in. Throw in a 14 month old, crazy dog, and a few nights of homelessness, you start to feel like you may never be normal again.   It is so exciting to see the progress that we've already made though! We are still living in a bit of a construction zone, but here's a snapshot of what we've been up to.

 

Before, we we're dealing with  mismatched hardwood, some pretty gross carpet, a whole house of yellow paint, and obstructive columns in the dining room:

 

 

 

Fresh white paint and sanding the floors and stairs begins:

 

 

 

Removing those columns and adding chair rail to our dining opens up and formalizes the space.

 

 

 Old carpet removed and wall to wall sisal installed upstairs and in the playroom.

 

And the finished stain! 50/50 Jacobean and Ebony stain. We are thrilled with the way they turned out!

Luxe Lifestyle: Friday Vignettes: Farewell to our house!

Yesterday was officially moving day!  And a 12 hour day it was.  How does stuff just seem to multiply when you're moving?! The packing never ends! Now we live just two more nights as nomads, and we will finally be in. Some real progress has been made on the house, can't wait to show you the pictures! Luxe Decor: New Home Wish List

We are now knee deep in updating/renovating the new home, and I'm not sure which is worse...waiting for the  60 day closing date, or waiting for the contractors to finish up! Either way, each day we see more progress and grow closer to our move-in date, and I get more and more anxious to be in the house to start decorating! And maybe you're like us...when it comes to a new home, we begin fantasizing (read obsessing) over the floor plan the very first day we set foot inside.  And even though I'm trying very hard to be patient to see exactly what will fit where once we're in, I've come up with a pretty good wish list in the meantime! I'm excited to see these items come to life!

Luxe Decor: Closing Day & The First Order of Business!

Wish us luck, today is the closing day!! And if all goes as planned, by the end of the day we will have keys in hand, opening doors for contractors to begin work right away.

 

Right now, the projects seem endless...but like Christin did, we will start with the basics, refinishing the existing wood floors to a darker stain, replacing carpet and painting EVERYTHING white!

 

In our opinion, you just can't beat a rich, dark floor and a crisp, white wall!

 

 We will be installing wall to wall sisal carpet upstairs...
