Luxe Entertaining: Lucite Cake Stand

As the final days before my wedding approached I felt confident that every detail was thoughtfully planned and ready for execution on our big day!  I spent nearly a year deciding on the venue, hiring the band, picking the menu, choosing the flowers and designing the cake!  But it was only a week before when I realized I hadn't even thought about a stand to display our beautiful wedding cake on!  Oh, those little details that fall through the cracks!!  There are some great options out there, like the more traditional silver cake stands, but I envisioned a simpler, sleeker, little more original look.  I conjured up this idea of a lucite cake stand.  Very simple...just two pieces of lucite stack together.  I called a local resource and order a 16" square piece lucite and a 18" square piece, both 1" thick.  Part of me doubted that this simple solution might not be as effective as I envisioned.  But when I saw the final product on the day of our wedding, I couldn't have been more pleased with the outcome! It far exceeded my expectations! Our delicious four tiered, butter cream frosted cake, adorned with fresh peonies looked perfect on top of the lucite creation!  Sometimes the simplest things can make a huge statement!

The Nursery Diaries Part Seven: Lucite Shelves

In my very first Nursery Diaries post, I discussed my desire to use lucite shelving in the nursery to add another clean, modern element to the room.  I absolutely love the look of lucite shelving...for anywhere in the house! It provides the perfect organization for a chic office space, adds glamour to a closet, and how amazing is the picture below of the thick shelving used in place of traditional kitchen cabinetry?!

Christin and I both have small lucite display shelves similar to the above photo in our homes.

Christin uses her vintage shelves to display coral.

My Etsy find displays a pair of turquoise ginger jars.

I love checking E-Bay and Etsy often for vintage, thick lucite shelves. For reeditions, there are some great resources for affordable acrylic shelving.

I went with these shelves for the nursery from Plexi-Craft.

Other great shelving options from Plexi-Craft:
Plexi-Craft has tons of other great pieces as well so check them out for your acrylic needs!  And they welcome custom orders, you can change the dimensions, thickness and curves of any piece.

My shelves actually came in last night, and I cannot wait to get them hung and accesorized with all of the sweet baby books and gifts we've recieved.  Just a few more weeks until the big reveal!

Luxe Decor: The Cocktail Table Reveal

Remember this cocktail table I picked up from Palm Beach Home Collection for $50!!

I love the brass and lucite combination! It's an aesthetic that is not easy to come by...and any time I have its been mucho $$$!!
Like I previously mentioned, I had no real need for another (3rd!) cocktail table!...but since I wasn't about to pass up this unique piece and amazing deal, my existing cocktail table has taken a hiatus to the garage.  With a little elbow grease, it cleaned up beautifuly and now resides perfectly in our den!
As promised, here are some photos of this beauty in its new home...Enjoy!

Local Haunts: Palm Beach Regency

I suppose it wouldn't be right to keep this amazing source all to ourselves!
We love Palm Beach Regency!!

Their name says its all! It's the best resource to find any and all things that exude old Palm Beach! Faux Bamboo, Lucite, Chinoiserie, Chippendale, Hollywood Regency, Rattan, etc, etc, etc!
They are primarily web based but have a great local warehouse that is a complete treasure chest of goodies!
Our latest trip was such a treat! Not only was it a total feast for our eyes but the prices are great and the owners, Dawn and Patricia, are SO lovely!  The whole experience was so much fun!

Of course we couldn't leave without taking home some treasures for ourselves!

This Vintage Gilded Banana Leaf Chandelier will look perfect in my dining room! It's just the right touch of old Palm Beach! Can't wait to hang it!

Lauren snagged a pair of these Carved Regency Mirrors for such a steal!
They look amazing flanking her headboard! The only way to make them more perfect is a fresh new lacquer! Until then, they still look great!

How incredible do the vintage x benches look in Lauren's entry?! Perfect fit and they don't even need to be reupholstered! LOVE!

I'm already eagerly anticipating our next visit! Can't wait!
Check out their site and if you speak to Dawn or Patricia, tell them the Luxe Girls say Hi!

The Nursery Diaries Part One: My Inspiration & The Modern Crib

Lauren here. For those who don't know, the hubby and I are expecting our first (a boy!) in September and we could not be more thrilled! In addition to the obvious excitement of starting our very own family, I have been daydreaming about creating our first nursery since seeing that wonderful little plus sign.

Discovering we have a boy on the way has brought many changes to how I thought I might design our first nursery.  It has certainly been different than dreaming up that perfectly pink, girly nursery with a classic Jenny Lind crib and a flowing ruffled crib skirt. But I digress.

A boy's nursery obviously requires more masculinity, and in my opinion, that means clean, sharp lines.  For our boy, I have fallen in love with the modern crib:

In line with these nurseries, I have decided to go with a very similar two-toned modern design.  Babyletto's 3-in-1 convertible modo crib.  Most importantly, the reviews are great and the price is right!  Of course choosing the ultimate in modern cribs is easy when you have bucks deluxe like Blue Ivy's parents.

So, I won't be buying Blue Ivy's lucite crib.  But as a lover of lucite, I will be incoporating lucite shelving for books and toys.

The room we are transforming was previously used as a den/office, and we already had a great little sofa in there from Artesia Collections.  I decided that this sofa would stay in the nursery and take the place (gasp!) of getting a glider.

Taking another cue from Rachel Zoe's nursery, I decided to use a sheepskin rug to add some coziness.  I went with the faux sheepskin rug from Home Decorator's Collection and again, it is a great bargain with great reviews!

The last big piece of furniture to add to the room is a dresser.  I definitely wanted to do a dresser and not a traditional changing table.  I'm thinking the Ikea Malm Dresser is a good, modern choice.

Onto colors and themes...navy is pretty much a given for us.  Again, since it is a boy, and our house very much already has a navy palette throughout the main living areas, we decided that we would stick with it as a main color in the nursery.  The more I sought out color inspirations, I decided that I wanted to also incorporate lighter blues and pops of orange.

Having too much of a "theme" is something I want to stay away from.  So, I can't say that it will have a jungle theme or a beach theme, but I do love the idea of incorporating animals and seem to be stuck somewhere in between safari animals and sea life at the moment.  Will have to work on that...

So there you have it! Using these products and concepts, I have created my initial design!

Stay tuned for new posts in The Nursery Diaries series each Friday!
